Dear Archbishop
Now look here, Williams. It's all about bottoms and boobs with you, isn't it. If someone has boobs they can't be a Bishop. Why? Is it something about the robes? We can give them sports bras if the jiggling is going to put people off their chanting. Churches should be about hymns and hers, because churches should be fairness as well as fetes. And then, bottoms. If a man likes another man's bottom, you say bog-off to marriage. What is that all about? If you are so cosy with the question, why are you so certain of your prejudice? Why do you answer 'no' to good people who want nothing more than to be seen to be in love, and seen to be equal in love? Why do you preach genteel hate in the name of Christ, instead of going beyond the subtle disdain of toleration and insisting that love can be the answer even when the questions are beyond us?
You aren't some country preacher, listened to on Sunday if you are lucky, you represent millions, and what you say matters. Shame on you for not being a champion of goodness, of fairness, of compassion, of equality and of love. Shame on you for having more faith in church politics than in people. Shame on you for being an example of Weinberg's assertion - for good people to do bad things takes religion. You can and must do better. Or if not, stand aside for someone with moral courage.
